Abstract
Objective: We evaluated the survey questionnaire for the dentists¡¯ opinions on the roles of the dental hygienist and assistant nurse who worked at the dental clinic, in order to determine their proper roles in dental works.

Methods: Three-hundred and ninety of the 1,208 dentists who were randomly selected from the list book of the Korean Dental Association published in 2011, responded to the survey questionnaire by postal service mail. The data analysis in-cluded responses to 54 questions on the individual tasks. Data interpretation allowed selection of the appropriate dental per-sonnel for the role(s) of dental hygienist, dental assistant nurse, both of them or none of them.

Results: Approximately 50% of the dentists were of the opinion that the intra oral X-ray procedure could be managed by both dental personnel in a co-operative work effort. Almost 100% of the dentists agreed that the preparation for the intra or extra oral X-ray procedure could be accomplished by both of them. Most of dentists were concerned about the management of adverse systemic conditions such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, emergency care for shock or bleeding control, even though the assistant nurse was licensed to perform intra-muscular injection and intra venous injection.

Conclusion: The results indicated that co-operative work between the dental hygienist and assistant nurse was recommended for dental assistance in the clinic.
